Nestled on the banks of the Rock River, Watertown is conveniently located between Milwaukee and Madison. It is a quaint town surrounded by beautiful farms and scenic farmland. But while Watertown is rooted in agriculture, it also has a solid industrial and commercial base – its new West Side Industrial Park is now up and running. The Wis-Pak/Pepsi packing plant and River City/Budweiser shipping plant are also both located in Watertown.

Amenities
Watertown is a great place to raise a family. Its public school system is top notch, employing only the best teachers and providing top notch education to the students. In addition to its public school system, Watertown also offers a wide variety of Parochial Schools from elementary to college. Its collegiate offerings boast the fine Watertown campus of Madison Area Technical College. Watertown is also proud to have founded the first kindergarten, an educational system brought to the United States by one the city’s German immigrants in 1856.

There is a Watertown transit system which offers residents a reasonably priced option for transportation within the city limits. It provides curb to curb services with cars, vans and small buses. Handicap accessible vehicles are also available. For youth, a “corner service” is available for pick ups and drop offs at pre-designated corners within Watertown.

Watertown offers various activities for residents to partake in. As the name suggests, the city’s abundance of water provides fun for everybody. Fishing, canoeing and boating are some of the more popular activities in the area. Watertown also has two 18-hole golf courses and an extensive park system consisting of numerous neighborhood parks and three large community parks. And in the winter months, the city accommodates locals with two ice rinks and cross country ski trails.

Every year, Watertown hosts Riverfest, a four-day festival at Riverside Park that is completely based on volunteer effort. It attracts over 35,000 people to Watertown and features live music, a carnival, food, 5k runs, raft races and much more.
Architecturally significant, Watertown features the historic eight-sided home. Known as the “Octagon House,” the home is one of Wisconsin’s most popular landmarks. It is a 57-room house that features a long spiral staircase and an ingenious cistern system. A treasure of the city, the “Octagon House” carries a bit of Watertown History.

History
Watertown was first explored in 1836 due to its valuable rapids and springs. It is formerly known as Johnson’s Rapids (named after its first settler Timothy Johnson) and was at one time the second largest city in Wisconsin.
