Milwaukee, Wisconsin Real Estate

Home to more than 600,000 people, Milwaukee is the largest city in Wisconsin. It is located off the shore of Lake Michigan, making it a great place to work and live. Popularized for its brewing industry, Milwaukee was once the number one beer producing city in the world for many years. Companies like Miller, Pabst and Blatz were all stationed in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee’s economy now attributes most of its production to businesses not in the brewing industry. Some of the big players in the Milwaukee business arena are Johnson Controls, Briggs & Stratton and Harley Davidson, to name a few.

Milwaukee has an exceptional school system and one of the highest college students-per-capita ratios in the United States. Located downtown is Marquette University, to the east is the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), and just north of the city is the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Milwaukee has much to do for residents in their leisure time. Dubbed the “City of Festivals,” Milwaukee hosts a plethora of events throughout the year, including the world’s largest music festival, Summerfest. Others include Italian Fest, German Fest, Wisconsin State Fair, Pridefest and many others.

For those who like to do a bit of gambling, Potawatami Bingo Casino is just minutes away from downtown. It offers high-stakes bingo, nearly 100 gaming tables, 3,100 slot machines, a 20-table Poker room and much more.

Harley Davidson, a name synonymous with Milwaukee, and vice versa, has an entire museum dedicated to its motorcycle – the most enduring and recognizable motorcycle in the world. Local residents and visitors alike find their way to the Harley Davidson Museum to get a bit of history on the brand that is so well known today.

Local historians attribute the name “Milwaukee” to a word derived from the Potowatami Tribe. The Potowatamis pronounced it Mahn-ah-wauk, meaning council ground.

Beer found its way to Milwaukee in the 1840s from Germany. The German passion for the art of brewing and the city’s great location led to its status as one of the largest beer-producing powerhouses in the world.
