History
The meaning of Pewaukee is “the dusty water,” or “lake of shells” in Potawatomi. Pewaukee was approved as a separate town on January 13, 1840 by an act of the Wisconsin Territorial Legislature. The town eventually became a village and was then incorporated as a city in 1999.
