Evansville, Wisconsin is a quaint community with preserved buildings and a historic atmosphere. The Evansville Historic Preservation Commission maintains the beautiful buildings that have been listed as a Historic District since 1978 by the National Register. Populated by 4,912 people, Evansville has been a big entertainment area since the beginning of its establishment. The city is covered in maple trees that line the streets. Evansville is well-known for its entertainment and events. Its early days saw the famous Hall Circus and traveling entertainers. The city is now home to many art performances and events.

Lake Leota hosts many events held by the city. Concerts on Lake Leota is a free concert event held at Lake Leota Park. Lake Leota Music and Art Festival showcases artist’s work, classic rock and rhythm and blues music. The Evansville Community Band reunites each summer and performs concerts on the lake.

The Performing Arts Center offers performances using advanced technology to put on the shows. Seating for more than 600 people, audiences can enjoy the recitals and musicals. The Evansville Community Theater hosts a variety of shows including circus acts, comedians, plays and musical productions that the whole family can enjoy.

History
Early settlers called the area “The Grove” because of the large acres of maple trees that populated the settlement. Agricultural land attracted settlers from the east coast. In 1855, the first town emerged with construction of wood-frame homes, churches and shops. Agriculture was the main industry led by wheat and tobacco. In 1863, the first railroad service sparked a steady growth to the area. City development began in the late 1870s with residential, commercial and manufacturing districts that are recognized today. Evansville was established as a city in 1896.
